You Matter: A Night of Celebration at DSACT’s Cocktail Bash

Last month, we hosted our annual spring fundraiser Cocktail Bash, bringing together supporters, families, and advocates for an unforgettable evening. The event featured live music, a fun photo booth, silent and live auctions, and delicious cocktails and hors d’oeuvres.

During the program, we heard from DSACT parent Beth, who has three children with Down syndrome, about the extraordinary impact that our PEAK Speech Therapy Program had on her son. We also heard from DSACT member Kayleigh Williamson, a famous runner who was the first person with Down syndrome to complete the Austin Marathon. She also recently completed the NYC Marathon. Kayleigh participated in our Speak Your Heart Program to write and deliver a speech at Cocktail Bash about our programs including the swimming program she participated in growing up that helped her stay healthy.

Throughout the evening, the theme, “You Matter,” came to life in various ways, from the captivating piece of art on stage, to a heartfelt video presentation, and the cookies in the party favor bag. This theme was inspired by a profound piece of art created by some of our adults during an art therapy group last summer.

“You Matter” is more than just a message; it’s a testament to the inherent worth and inclusivity that we strive to embody at DSACT. We believe in championing the value of every individual within the Down syndrome community and beyond, celebrating unique talents and inherent worth. The video we showed at Cocktail Bash shared the story behind the “You Matter” artwork and invited DSACT families be a part of our “You Matter” campaign. Thank you to each of our wonderful donors, sponsors, and volunteers who made this event such a resounding success. Remember, You Matter!
