DSACT Board of Directors President Connolly Lees and Director of Operations Jessica Patton were honored to accept the prestigious 2023 Champions of Change Award at the National Down Syndrome Society’s annual Advocacy Conference in Washington, D.C. The award was presented in recognition of DSACT’s Buddy Walk® being named the best in the nation, beating over 200 other Buddy Walks® hosted by Down syndrome organizations across the country.
The 2022 Buddy Walk® was a resounding success, bringing together over 1,400 attendees in person for the first time since 2019. The event was filled with fun, friendship, and celebration, and through the hard work of DSACT members and the community, over $172,000 was raised for individuals with Down syndrome and their families in Central Texas.
Francis Bradley, a longtime volunteer of the DSACT Buddy Walk®, shared his thoughts on the event, saying, “The Buddy Walk® is and has been that one time every year when the families, the relatives, and the friends of our special people get to meet each other and march together in support and unity. Being given the opportunity to volunteer to help the Walk happen has been [DSACT’s] gift to me for 18 years.”
The DSACT Buddy Walk® has become a special event for families, friends, and volunteers alike, and the organization is proud of the recognition it has received from the National Down Syndrome Society. The 2023 Buddy Walk® promises to be another unforgettable day, taking place on October 1, 2023, at Reunion Ranch in Georgetown [insert link to BW page].
