DSACT’s Summer Reading Program

Reflecting on the DSACT Summer Reading Program

As we conclude our four-week summer reading program, we at DSACT are filled with pride and joy. Our program, designed for early readers, has been an incredible journey of learning, growth, and fun for both the children and our dedicated team of educators and volunteers.

A Personal Touch with a 2:1 Student-to-Teacher Ratio

Our commitment to maintaining a 2:1 student-to-teacher ratio proved invaluable. It allowed us to provide personalized attention to each child, ensuring that every participant received the support they needed to thrive. This approach was particularly beneficial for our early emergent readers (approximately ages 3-5) and emergent readers (approximately ages 6-8), who blossomed under the guidance of our attentive instructors.

Play-Based Learning

One of the standout features of our program was its play-based learning approach. Children were deeply engaged in hands-on activities, such as building letters from playdough, playing rhyming games, and participating in song and dance routines. These activities made learning fun and interactive, helping children to internalize reading skills in a joyful and memorable way.

Continued Learning at Home

We also emphasized the importance of continued practice at home. The assignments and development ideas provided between sessions were well-received by both children and parents. These activities seamlessly integrated into daily routines, reinforcing the skills learned during camp and fostering a collaborative learning environment at home.

Building Skills and Confidence

Throughout the camp, we witnessed remarkable progress in the children’s reading and literacy skills. More importantly, we saw a boost in their confidence. They learned to take turns, follow instructions, and work collaboratively, skills that are just as crucial as reading itself.

A Journey to Lifelong Reading

The DSACT Summer Reading Program has been more than just a series of sessions; it has been a meaningful journey towards instilling a lifelong love for reading in our young participants. The joy on their faces as they discovered new words and sounds and the proud moments of successfully demonstrating a new skill will be cherished memories for us all.

Looking Ahead

As we reflect on the success of this program, we are inspired to grow and improve upon it in order to ensure we continue to offer the best and most engaging programs to our members . We are grateful to the parents for their support and to the children for their enthusiasm and hard work. Together, we have made this summer a truly memorable and educational experience.

Thank you for being a part of the DSACT Summer Reading Program. We look forward to many more adventures in learning and reading with your wonderful children!
