Social groups provide a supportive network for families to connect, form friendships, seek advice and share their joys and challenges. These groups are primarily organized based on the age of your loved one with Down syndrome, in addition to Comité Latino, our all-ages Spanish-speaking group.

Our youngest age groups meet every other month for fun activities like bowling, park play dates, and picnics all led by our dedicated parent volunteers. Teen and Adult Groups meet monthly, led by a social group facilitator, to encourage independence as our members get older. However, active parent involvement is still important to expand social offerings and create special events like our beloved formal dances. If you are interested in hosting a social event, please email Director of Programs and Events, Julia Forslund.

Become a member to attend these social events! DSACT will send social event communication primarily via evite. We will also include information for upcoming social events in each social group below. If you feel it’s time for your family member to transition to the next age group, please contact Julia Forslund to be added to the correct list.

We also host Facebook groups to provide a platform for discussions where families can share their own events, ask questions, post pictures, and more. While we share relevant DSACT activities on the Facebook groups, the primary intent is for you to have ownership of this community!

To ensure accessibility, we operate these programs on a Pay-What-You-Can model, with a typical suggested donation of only $20. These fees only cover a small fraction of the true programming costs. We rely heavily on the generosity of donors like you, and donors at fundraising events like Buddy Walk and Cocktail Bash, to cover the full cost of our programs. If you value these programs, we ask you to consider making a donation today. Your donation ensures that we can offer our programs to all members, no matter their budget!
