DSACT Service and Social Club
In 2025, we officially launched the DSACT Service and Social Club after a successful pilot program in 2024. This initiative is open to both adults with Down syndrome and their adult family members, who are welcome to participate (though family involvement is optional). The club develops leadership and life skills among our adult members, fosters friendships within the adult Down syndrome community and their families, and empowers members to contribute to the community through service.
2024 Pilot Program Review
Our pilot club in 2024 was a fantastic journey of community engagement and fun! Members participated in a variety of service projects and social activities, including:
- Wrapping and sorting gifts for Brown Santa
- Volunteering at Austin Creative Reuse to fold and shelve fabrics
- Collecting trash along Johnson Creek Trail for Keep Austin Beautiful Day
- Learning new skills in a healthy cooking class
- Collecting canned goods for the Capital Area Food Bank
- Creating art to raise funds at the DSACT Buddy Walk®
These experiences not only strengthened friendships among members but also gave back to the Austin community in meaningful ways.
2025 Club Details
The club is open to adults with Down syndrome as well as their family members, who are welcome (but not required) to participate. Members will have the opportunity to take on leadership roles, helping to plan and organize events that make a positive impact.
Alongside these service projects, we’ll incorporate social gatherings and workshops focused on building life skills, teamwork, and personal growth. While club members are encouraged to take on leadership responsibilities and commit to attending events throughout the year, other DSACT members are welcome to join the activities planned by the Service and Social Club. This is a wonderful opportunity to connect, grow, and give back to the community together!
